For me it’s this, an early 2000's Jaguar XKR.
I’ve always loved the look of these and a prime example can easily be had for 10-15 grand. I realize repairs could bankrupt me but I’m not looking that far ahead, I’m young and foolish.

SN95, EP3 Civic, Na or NB Miata, G35.

I encourage you to be more foolish; these have similar styling, can be had with a stick, and not too much more coin https://www.truecar.com/used-cars-for-sale/listing/ZAMBC38A450016882/2005-maserati-coupe/

My stables are pretty full up. But if i find an FD in not red and tan with the touring package. On the relatively cheap.
Man i might

None, because my goal for 2018 is to actually reduce my car count from 3 to 2. I’m planning on giving a car to a family member once I get it sorted out and inspected.

If I can sell my Matrix for more than I owe on it, and can find one of these unicorns as my new daily. 2700lb tow capacity means they could pull my FX16 on a two wheel tow dolly to the occasional track day too.
Or

If I sell the mini (which I won’t) I can get a Porsche Boxster (98-01) or a 911 carrera (98-03)

If i were to wait a full year.... It could range from this...
to this...

I just want these two to finally come together. I’d be happy then. The car’s been off the road since 2016.

Afford to finance? C5 Corvette. Afford to buy? A 2wd 5.3 truck to donate a drivetrain to the Jag.

These are all cars I would totally LOVE to own in 2018, I’m serious. Basically, I want a GMC TopKick and/or some kind of sporty convertible. :D

It would be a C55 AMG. That V8 in a little C-class would be awesome. Or, an XJR because I think it was the classiest super sedan of the early 2000s. OH or a Volvo S80 V8 AWD because why the fuck not? Really any sedan with a V8 that has sporting pretenses.

A project Supra.

I need a more practical alternative to the Miata for next-to-nothing, so it would be a 2nd-gen Forester non-turbo.

If I stretched a bit I could probably afford it. If Kroger has a sale then I can get it comfortably.

I drove an S80 AWD when we were looking for cars for my Mom. It was stupendously comfortable. She liked it too... just doesn’t like white cars. I dig the V60 Cross Country she ended up with but I’d have coveted that S80.

This is one area where me an my brother in law differ. I’m a driver so having my project in the garage is painful. But he’s more of a mechanic so he’s bummed when it’s not in the garage

C6 Z06. You can get a ratty one right now for under 30k. I feel they will drop more with the new ZR1

I feel bad, in some old thread I asked about the XK/XKR/XK8, and someone wrote me a super detailed response with all sorts of useful information, but I can’t find it now. I agree that they look super attractive at their current prices.

Starting the year off right, I’ll be buying mine this week.
If wating a full year (and saving instead of hemorrhaging money on half a dozen projects) I’d be in a ZL1 1LE

Props to you man. Love those, the C6 ZR1 is still pretty pricey and I wish those would come down.

When it became completely impossible to find a manual XT that hasn’t been molested to death. Every single one I’ve found within a few hundred miles of me is either auto or slammed to the ground.

Probably a GTI or Mazdaspeed3. I need a hatchback because as an aspiring audio engineer I definitely will need to haul some large, heavy gear around, but as much as I love the Fit I’d like something with a bit more kick.

agreed. They’re probably as much of money pits as all Jags are but man... those prices are incredible for a car I’ve loved since I was a kid.

Well maybe not next year, but soon I hope. looking more like 3-4 tbh. I do like those early XKs too, but it would have to be a Coupe and an R

Good point. I was only thinking about production numbers. You’ll have to snatch one from an old lady before a bro finds it. I swear the only demographic I’ve ever seen driving a XT was either 20's male or old ladies.

Yeah, just doing a simple search it seems like the convertibles are way more common

I see newer generation (auto only) XT’s rolling around relatively regularly, but a pre-2012 manual is a needle in a haystack.
